Strengthening European Competitiveness – European Innovation & Foresight Bootcamp was the first Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) held as part of European Union Week — a pan-European initiative aimed at addressing key challenges facing the EU, involving high-level public officials, students, and academic staff from universities across Europe.
This year’s European Union Week was officially opened by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. The Warsaw event was held under the patronage of the Minister for European Union Affairs, in connection with Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The BIP programme at Kozminski University was delivered in cooperation with international partners, including the consortium leader of EU Week — the Technical University of Munich (TUM School of Management) — and Estonian Business School (EBS).
The official opening of the BIP was led by Professor Bolesław Rok, a renowned expert in sustainable management, co-founder of the RES. Centre for Reimagining Sustainability, advisor to sustainability-focused start-ups, and co-author of ESG and positive-impact start-up rankings, together with Professor Joachim Henkel (TUM), founder of the EU Week initiative, Vice Dean for Research at TUM, and a recognised authority in technology and innovation management.
Following the opening, the programme continued with a session led by Dr Mateusz Zawistowski on the Startup Innovation Ecosystem.
Participants also engaged in hands-on workshops delivered by experts from EY, and attended two keynote lectures offering diverse international perspectives:
- The Asian Way to Innovation, delivered by experts from the Asia-Europe Foundation;
- European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) and the AI Act, delivered by Dr Karolina Małagocka.
The programme concluded with a closing keynote by Professor Marcin Piątkowski, Programme Leader at the World Bank in New Delhi. His lecture, What Makes Countries Rich and What Keeps Them Poor: Lessons from the European Growth Champion, offered a comprehensive wrap-up of the BIP and reflected on Europe’s experiences with economic growth.
