From Dream to Outcome - MBA Master's Degree in One Year

a
EBS offers two choices for master's studies: an MA and an MBA. The latter is designed for those with a higher education degree in any field and at least three years of experience in process or team management. The One-year MBA is tailored for those who wish to enhance their leadership knowledge within a compact period, elevate their business to a new level, or climb the career ladder in one year.

Admission to the MBA program requires a master's degree or a higher education equivalent to 240 ECTS credits. The learning process is team-based, using real-life examples, including those from the participants' businesses. Classes are conducted in session-based learning, facilitating master's degree attainment alongside work.

Ester Eomois works for the Chair of Management at EBS and offers a master's course focusing on various leadership styles, with an emphasis on coaching. "This unique course, not found in other universities, covers all leadership styles but practices one-on-one and team-based coaching leadership – an effective way to inspire and lead team members. We also learn a four-stage survey model," explains Eomois, adding that the course allows for extensive practical application, substantial knowledge acquisition, and sharing of experiences, all with a good dose of humor.

The One-year MBA program targets those with prior work and leadership experience. Eomois describes the profile of participants: "Having taught in the master's program for several years, I can confidently say that students value their education highly, aim to expand their network, and are looking to make a career leap."

Sten Pajula, a student in the Estonian-language One-year MBA program, offers his perspective. He chose this curriculum expecting to gain structured theoretical knowledge. "I'm a business enthusiast, an avid reader of business literature, and wanted to underpin my fragmented business knowledge with academic rigor. I reviewed various schools offering such education, considered my time availability, and opted for the one-year course."

For Pajula, deciding meant internal debate and assessing his time resources. "I thought it would be challenging to manage work and studies simultaneously, but I've managed my time well. As the curriculum is practically oriented, I can work on my company's case and integrate learning with work." He also overcame fears related to financial subjects, "I was apprehensive about finance due to my weak mathematics background, but the faculty, with the right mindset and structure, waited for the entire group. There's enough personal attention, which helped me overcome difficult areas."

Completing the program not only boosts confidence and decision-making courage but also provides valuable skills for both work and personal life. "Knowledge alone is worthless today, as the internet is full of it and readily accessible. For me, the most interesting and useful lessons are related to management and leadership skills, like coaching – the ability to listen and reflect," shares Pajula.

He values the diverse spectrum of professionals in the course, providing various tactical knowledge. After graduation, a supportive network of coursemates remains for future interaction and advice. He also appreciates the high-level, experienced lecturers and highlights EBS's open culture between students and faculty. "This means if I have an idea or concern, I can approach a faculty member for answers and help, which is quite special."

Meelis Kitsing, Rector of EBS and a lector of Managerial Economics for masters’ students, says, "My course links vital concepts in economics with management practice. Students' anonymous feedback has been very positive, particularly appreciating the course structure, topic selection, and relevant examples. The methods of course delivery, combining group work, individual home assignments, and experiments, are also significant. Based on feedback, written homework is challenging but allows students to share diverse experiences with others. We've designed our MBA courses to be a combination of academic knowledge and sharing of participants' management experiences."

Admissions for the One-year Estonian-language MBA group, starting in the Spring semester of 2024, are open. The application deadline is 2nd January 2024, with admission interviews scheduled for 4th January 2024. The course runs until January 2025, culminating with a degree of Master in Business Administration.
