EBS started the new academic year with ambitious plans

EBS avaaktus 2023

Estonian Business School (EBS) has kicked off the new academic year with a spirited opening ceremony. In keeping with tradition, the anthem of the Republic of Estonia was played first, followed by beautiful songs performed by the EBS Chamber Choir. Then the Director of the Gymnasium and the Rector of the University, as well as the heads of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes took the floor. EBS Chancellor Mart Habakuk shared the results, vision and goals.  The most outstanding lecturers of the previous academic year were also rewarded.

More than 300 bachelor’s and master’s students will start their studies at EBS in the new academic year, as well as a record number of doctoral students. Due to the turbulent foreign policy situation, the proportion of international students is slightly lower this year, but overall EBS is again pleased to report a high level of interest in EBS this year.

Entrepreneurship and Business Administration is the most popular undergraduate programme this year, especially as a session-based programme. The advantage of session-based studies is the possibility to combine study with work. A relatively new programme - Impactful Entrepreneurship - continues to gain popularity precisely because of its practical focus and is starting its 4th year with a record number of students.

The MBA is the most popular and preferred of the master’s programmes. As a novelty from this academic year, the EBS master's programme offers the possibility of an MA Double degree in cooperation with the University of Liège. This means studying in EBS in the first year and in Liège, Belgium, in the second year, and graduating with a diploma from both universities. EBS also offers the possibility to obtain a master's degree in just one year in three EBS master's programmes.

It is also pleasing to note that we have a record number of applicants for doctoral studies this year, where there is a stronger interest in digitalization and sustainability as a specialization.

Liina Reimann, Head of Student Experience, bachelor's and master's: "We are delighted with the large number of new students. Entrepreneurship programmes are still very popular, both in Estonian and English. This year, we have seen high results in the admission interviews and a very clear vision and conscious selection of candidates - EBS students of the future are ambitious, entrepreneurial, and have bold ideas."

EBS Rector Meelis Kitsing summed up the goals for the new year: "We can be proud of the high interest in enrolling at EBS and of the students' continued positive assessment of the quality of the university. EBS's main priority remains to provide high-quality business education and entrepreneurial knowledge. We will continue to consciously build a community of growth and responsibility, both within the organization and with our students. What makes this school year special is that EBS will celebrate its 35th anniversary in December 2023. I wish the whole school family an inspiring and successful new academic year."
