EBS Knowledge Team

The Finance and Accounting Knowledge Team integrates academic knowledge and industry experience to provide high-quality education in finance, accounting, and business mathematics. The team supports studies in all bachelor’s and master’s programmes, ensuring that students develop good analytical skills and a strong understanding of financial decision-making in an international context.

Focus areas

Finance and accounting education

Delivering core and advanced courses in finance, accounting, and business mathematics across programmes, ensuring consistency in learning outcomes and academic standards.

International standards

Coordination of the Finance and Accounting specialisation within the International Business Administration BA programme and finance streams in other programmes. Through the alignment of its finance courses with global industry standards, EBS has achieved recognition as the only CFA-affiliated university in the Baltic-Finnish region.

Strong collaboration

Strong collaboration with industry partners (e.g. SEB, KPMG, PwC, Estonian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association) ensures practical relevance through guest lectures, company visits, internships, and co-delivered courses.

Teaching activities

The team’s teaching focuses on developing analytical, quantitative, and decision-making competencies in finance and accounting

Courses focus on key areas, such as financial accounting, managerial accounting, corporate finance, investment management, financial derivatives, and business analytics, e.g. Understanding Financial Statements, Accounting for Managerial Decisions, Principles of Finance, Personal Finance, Valuation of Securities, Investment Management, Financial Reporting, Financial Communication, Corporate Finance, Finance Ethics and Law, and Business Mathematics and Statistics.

Micro-degrees are offered at both bachelor's and master's level:

  • Bachelor level: Core Competencies in Investment and Finance; Financial Reporting and Communication; Financial and Managerial Decision-Making
  • Master level: Strategic Financial Management: Tools, Analysis and Decision-Making

Corporate Collaboration

A strong emphasis is placed on integrating industry expertise into teaching through the engagement of adjunct lecturers.

Practitioners delivering full courses, ensuring current and practice-oriented learning, include Juan Sáenz-Diez (CFA member), Taivo Reintal (AML Specialist at Nordea), and Urmas Kaarlep (Executive and Team Coach at Nasdaq CSD, Member of the Supervisory Board and Chairman of the Audit Committee).

Guest lecturers also include Kaarel Ots (Head of Nasdaq Baltic Exchanges and CEO of Nasdaq Tallinn) and Valeria Kiisk (Partner at Redgate), bringing senior-level industry perspectives into the classroom.

The elective course ‘Concepts, Case Studies, and Career Paths in the Private Equity and Venture Capital Industry’ is delivered in collaboration with the Estonian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
