Meelis Kitsing is a Professor at the Department of Economics and Finance and Director at the Centre for Free Economic Thought at the Estonian Business School. He also serves as the President of Estonian Economic Association. He was Head of Economic Analysis at the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications from 2011 to 2015. Meelis has taught at the University of Massachusetts, University of Connecticut, Clark University, College of the Holy Cross, Emmanuel College, Bentley University and Western New England University in the United States.

 

His contributions on political economy of information technology and open source software development have been published by Transnational Corporations Review, Journal of Politics, Policy and Internet, Journal of Information Technology and Politics as well as by MIT Press, ACM and IOS Press. His research has been funded by the US National Science Foundation, Hayek Fund for Scholars at the Institute for Humane Studies and Humane Studies Fellowship of Institute for Humane Studies at the George Mason University. He has conducted research at Estonian Business School, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications in Estonia, University of Massachusetts Amherst, National Center for Digital Government (US), George Mason University, Central European University and Harvard University.He has been quoted in the Financial Times, Economist, Reader’s Digest, El Comercio and Postimees.

 

Meelis earned his PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (US), his MALD as a Fulbright scholar from the Fletcher School at Tufts University (US) and his MSc as a Peacock scholar from London School of Economics (UK).
