EBS hosted an international conference on governance and succession in family enterprises

In June, EBS, in collaboration with the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI), hosted the international conference Steering the Legacy: Governance and Succession in Family Enterprises. The event brought together researchers, business leaders, and practitioners from across Europe to discuss governance, succession planning, and the long-term sustainability of family enterprises.

The conference was opened by Meelis Kitsing, Rector of EBS, who highlighted that EBS has combined academic excellence with practical business experience since its founding. He emphasized that entrepreneurship and executive education are embedded in the school's DNA, with a strong focus on creating real-world impact. This commitment was recently recognized in the Redstone Startup Index, which ranked EBS as Europe's most efficient business school for startup creation.

One of the conference's featured discussions brought together Mart Habakuk, Chancellor of EBS, and Ave Habakuk, representing the next generation of leadership at EBS. Their conversation explored how family businesses can preserve their purpose and values across generations while remaining adaptable in a rapidly changing world. They also reflected on EBS's mission of preparing leaders who are ready not only to respond to change, but to lead it.

The programme also featured internationally renowned experts discussing corporate governance, responsible ownership, shareholder engagement, and the future of family enterprises. Alongside these global perspectives, EBS's own experience as a family-founded institution added a practical dimension to the discussions.
