AI Tools course

AI Literacy, Tools and Skills for Business Leaders

Artificial intelligence tools are developing rapidly, with new solutions emerging every month that influence business, creative work, communication, and productivity. The bachelor-level course AI Tools gives participants practical skills to find, test, and critically evaluate artificial intelligence tools and apply them to concrete tasks. Participants learn to make more informed choices in an environment where technological possibilities are abundant, but their actual value and limitations require systematic assessment.

Informed choices in a rapidly changing AI landscape

The course helps participants move from simply trying out AI tools to testing and evaluating them in a more structured way. Students learn how to compare tools based on clear criteria, such as usability, output quality, limitations, and free or freemium options.

Through practical assignments, participants develop the ability to use AI tools for creating text, visuals, presentations, videos, and web-based outputs. As a result, they gain a clearer understanding of when AI tools can support learning, creative work, business ideas, and productivity — and when their outputs need to be reviewed critically.

Who is AI Literacy, Tools and Skills for Business Leaders intended for?

The course is designed as an elective course for EBS bachelor’s students who want to develop practical skills in finding, testing, and critically evaluating artificial intelligence tools.

The course is suitable for students who want to understand how AI solutions can be used in studies, business idea development, creative tasks, communication, and improving productivity. No prior technical background is required; what matters is a willingness to experiment with different digital tools, analyse their results, and share insights through individual and group work.

Topics Covered

Why it matters?
The number of available AI tools is growing rapidly, and students need to learn how to distinguish useful solutions from tools that are superficial, limited, or not suitable for the task. A structured approach to evaluation helps students make more informed choices in their studies, projects, and future professional work.

What will take place?
Students will identify an AI tool they have not used before, describe what it can do, and assess its practical value. The task introduces students to sources such as ThereIsAnAIForThat.com, Futuretools.io, or Google, and encourages them to consider which types of tasks the selected tool is suitable for.

Why it matters?
Visual communication plays an important role in presentations, marketing, content creation, and early-stage idea development. With AI image generation tools, the quality of the result depends heavily on the prompt, making prompting an important skill for achieving relevant and purposeful outputs.

What will take place?
Students will create a prompt for an image related to their own activity, business idea, initiative, or project, and test the same prompt in at least five free AI image-generation tools. The generated results will be collected into slides and ranked according to quality and personal preference.

Why it matters?
Video has become an important format for presenting ideas, initiatives, products, and services. AI video tools make it possible to prototype messages and visual concepts quickly, but their use requires attention to creativity, clarity, structure, and audience fit.

What will take place?
Students will create a short video using an AI video platform of their choice. The completed video will be uploaded to YouTube, and students will also design a thumbnail that supports the message, visual style, and intended audience of the concept.

Why it matters
Using one AI tool is only part of the learning process; greater value comes from comparing tools and justifying choices based on clear criteria. Group work develops students’ ability to analyse AI tools, present findings, and support conclusions with structured arguments.

What will take place
Students will work in groups and choose a specific niche of AI tools, such as tools for presentations, music, video, coding, or another practical field. Each group will analyse 4–6 tools, evaluating their usability, free or freemium options, strengths, and weaknesses.

Certificate

Participants who complete the course will receive a continuing education certificate with ECTS credits.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the principles of AI literacy and future skills, and demonstrate their relevance for business leadership in the age of AI.
2. Use accessible AI tools to carry out practical business tasks and enhance everyday work processes across different business contexts.
3. Apply basic data literacy skills to interpret AI-generated outputs, identify potential biases or errors, and validate insights for responsible business use.
4. Design and propose strategies for leading AI adoption in organisations, including approaches to change management, workforce reskilling, and organisational integration.
5. Evaluate and reflect on the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI adoption, with an emphasis on responsible leadership and organisational accountability.

To successfully complete the course, students must participate in the learning activities and complete all individual and group assignments set during the course. If participation is not possible, alternative individual assignments must be completed.

Assessment is based on seminar participation, practical assignments, testing AI tools, presenting created outputs, and the final group project. In the final project, the group analyses a selected niche of AI tools, compares several tools based on their usability, features, strengths, and limitations, and presents the results together with a justified ranking.

The course takes place at EBS’s modern campus in Tallinn, Lauteri 3. Students have access to ergonomic classrooms, the EBS library, and the cloud-based Canvas learning platform. The study process is supported by online tools such as Zoom, MS Teams, or Canvas Conference. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. On-site attendance is required.
