Costs and Break-even Analysis: fixed and variable costs, contribution, break-even analysis, margin of safety

Direct and indirect costs, absorption costing, calculating the blanket rate, over and under recovery, calculating a departmental rate to fully cost the product, activity-based costing

 The advantages of budgeting, the process of budgeting, preparation of a budget, problems of budgeting, flexible budgeting, variance analysis

Cost-plus pricing, sales-margin pricing, choosing the appropriate costing method, pricing and product strategy, transfer pricing

Relevant revenue and costs, make or buy decisions, limiting factors, closure of sites or discontinuing products

Payback period, Net Present Value, internal Rate of Return

Financial and non-financial performance measurement, key performance measures, benchmarking, the balanced scorecard, customer profitability analysis

Certificate

Participants who complete the course will receive a continuing education certificate with ECTS credits.

Course structure

The course is expected to take place from period February to May 2027, about three months. Classes will be held once per week during working hours. The exact schedule will be confirmed in November 2026.
Lectures will not be recorded. Registration opens in December 2026. The number of places is limited.

Course details

Entry requirements

  • High School Education or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous knowledge finance and current topics
  • Valid temporary residence permit or EU citizenship.

Upon completion of the course the student:

1. Values the role of managerial accounting in company management. (Knowledge)
2. Identifies potential ethical conflicts and dilemmas in performance measurement and control. (Knowledge)
3. Applies the basic methods of managerial accounting for planning, controlling and decision-making. (Application)
4. Contributes to effective teamwork in making managerial decisions based on financial information. (Social)
5. Analyses the performance of a business using financial as well as non-financial measures. (Individual)
6. Communicates accounting information relevant for managerial decision-making within an organisation. (Transferable)

To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate, participants must actively participate in sessions, complete independent assignments and test and pass examination.

The course takes place at EBS’s modern campus in Tallinn, Lauteri 3. Students have access to ergonomic classrooms, the EBS library, and the cloud-based Canvas learning platform. The study process is supported by online tools such as Zoom, MS Teams, or Canvas Conference. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. On-site attendance is required.

Assessment is based on the achievement of learning outcomes and the application of acquired knowledge in practical management decision-making. The final grade is formed from a case study, tests, home and classroom assignments, and an examination.
