Estonian Business School first Private University in Estonia to Gain Full Accreditation for PhD Programme
19.08.2009
For the first time in the history of Estonian higher education a private university has received accreditation for its Doctoral Programme.
The Estonian Higher Education Quality Agency Evaluation Board accepted the recommendation of a team of international peer reviewers and awarded Estonian Business School’s Doctoral Programme in Management full accreditation. The team of reviewers confirmed, without any further recommendations, that EBS’ Doctoral Programme met all the requirements for an internationally recognised PhD.
The peer review team comprised Dr Alison Morrison, Head of Research from Strathclyde University, Scotland; Professor Heinrich Stremitzer, the former Rector of WU Wien, Austria; Dr Rony Flatscher from WU Wien and Dr Peter Mason from the University of Bedfordshire, also in the UK.
Dr Peeter Kross, Rector of EBS, said: “Estonian Business School has put much effort into developing and improving its research in the past few years. This is a long process, particularly when doctoral students in Estonia do not receive state funding enabling them to study full time. The fact that we now have doubled the number of doctoral graduates, and that our PhD programme has been accredited by the Estonian Higher Education Quality Agency, gives us new energy and encouragement to move on to greater achievements. This accreditation will now unlock access to state support for research projects, something which can only assist us in our international research.”
Among other graduates of EBS Doctoral Programme are EBS Vice Rector for Research Dr Ruth Alas and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at Mainor Business School Dr Krista Tuulik. This year Amy Wei Sun successfully defended her thesis becoming the first PhD graduate of the programme from China.
The nominal study period of the Doctoral Programme in Management is 4 years.
