European Central Bank Council Press Conference broadcasts in EBS

02.02.2012

Since February, EBS hosts a monthly public broadcast of the European Central Bank Governing Council press conference. The broadcast is followed by a public debate. All EBS professors and students are welcome to attend.

At these press conferences, the President of the European Central Bank discloses the outcome of the Governing Council meetings, including among other things the key European Central Bank interest rates and the position of the Eurosystem regarding the economic outlook. Following the press conference, there will be an open debate, where the outcome of the press conference will be analysed and its effects on the Estonian economy will be debated.

The broadcast will be in English while the debate may be both in Estonian as well as in English depending on the participants. Andres Tupits (on photo), Acting Head of the Department of Economy will moderate the debate.

For the first broadcast, Peeter Luikmel from Eesti Pank (the Bank of Estonia) was the guest attending the broadcast as well as the debate. In March Andres Vesilind from Nordea Bank took part as a guest speaker.

The ECB is the central bank for Europe's single currency, the euro. The ECB’s main task is to maintain the euro's purchasing power and thus price stability in the euro area. The euro area comprises the 17 European Union countries that have introduced the euro since 1999.
