Today, starting at 18.00 in room 204C, an auditorium named EBS Master’s Club will be opened by EBS Rector Mr. Peeter Kross.

Master’s Club was established in December, 1992 as an informal organisation. The President of the Master’s Club Mr. Urmas Arumäe says that it has been an ongoing process whether it have been existed as a legal body or not.

“Throughout the 17 years of existence our club has organised its’ activities and met regularly, because we enjoy the opportunity to socialize and have educative atmosphere. Also we have experienced the special “us” feeling. We have not been interfered by the politics and maintained our non-political approach,” said Mr. Arumäe.

The club joins together alumni with Master’s Degree in economics or law and from other field of studies, who are interested in supporting economics and law education and academic research in Estonia. Through establishing economic, cultural and partnership relations for gathering money and other assets for the club, they support students and researchers. For years the Master’s Club has issued scholarship especially for EBS students.

With opening the Master’s Club auditorium a set of presentation technique will be handed over for the room 204C. After the opening ceremony discussion about the future of the club will take place.

The most active members have been EBS founder Mr. Madis Habakuk, Monika, Pramann-Salu, Peep Aaviksoo, Urmas Arumäe etc.

JCI Estonia 2009 National Conference program is dedicated to JCI 20 years in Estonia. Today’s economical situation involves both: threats and opportunities. But each of us makes the choice we want to believe – whether to be an optimist or pessimist. It’s time to look inside and around us – what is our attitude to the crisis and whether we see new opportunities. At this year’s conference, internationally well-known people will share their experiences, who with their ambitions and commitment have moved “Per Aspera Ad Astra”.

EBS is proud to be partners with JCI, and provide the opportunities of learning and training to people who are interested in developing the leadership abilities and initiating positive changes in the society.

Information sessions about EBS, will take place today during the conference at 9.00 - 10.00 am, 12.00 - 13.00 pm, and 14.45 - 15.15 pm in Radisson SAS Hotel, Tallinn.

We are proud that a real global leadership guru Jean-Pierre Lehmann found 2 hours from his fully booked calendar to make a presentation on Global Threats and Challenges at EBS. With his challenging presentation he made us think what do we really want to achieve with our lives, how much injustice and threats are there around us and how big are the business opportunities if we just can think out of the box. A world-class Professor of International Political Economy at IMD encouraged our students and faculty members to turn our eyes on the East Asia, to forget conventional understandings of business and start empowering people not authorities. His presentation, full of lively examples, showed that business has tremendous potential and namely business school students are those who are able to accomplish this potential.

Shortly before Sweden took over the Presidency of the European Council, HE Jan Palmstierna, the Swedish Ambassador to Estonia, visited Estonian Business School where he met Rector Peeter Kross and Vice Rector Nicola Hijlkema. In addition to the school’s links with Swedish universities, Mr Palmstierna was interested to learn of EBS’ policy towards the countries involved in the EU’s Eastern partnership, sponsored by Sweden and Poland.

EBS has partners in Georgia and Ukraine, and will receive the first exchange students from Tbilisi this coming autumn. During the academic year 2008 – 2009, EBS received a delegation of the Rectors of Armenian universities, and also had a visit recently from students associations from Azerbaijan. Over the past two years, EBS has also had several students from Belarus, sponsored by the Estonian government. The Ambassador felt that these projects were definitely in line with what the EU wanted to achieve and hoped that the Swedish Presidency would drive this forward.

On a lighter note, Mr Palmstierna revealed that he had no ambitions to follow the dancing experience of his predecessor!
