“The Corporate Social Responsibility Index 2007“ - Seminar at Estonian Business School

On 20th March 2008, at 14.00, Estonian Business School will host a seminar presenting the 2007 results of the Corporate Social Responsibility Index, together with the exchange of good practice. This seminar, which will take place in the EBS Main Hall, is organised by EBS Centre for Ethics, the Responsible Business Forum and Estonia’s business newspaper Äripäev.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Index was initiated in the autumn of 2007 by Äripäev and the Responsible Business Forum. Its aim was to assist companies in the definition, evaluation and development of their activity and its economic, social and environmental impact through information provided to its related groups and interest groups. 14 companies took part in compiling the index. The evaluation board included experts from the EBS Centre for Ethics, Äripäev, the Good Deed Foundation and the Responsible Business Forum. On average the companies participating in the 2007 Index of Corporate Social Responsibility achieved 72%.

The opinion of the evaluation board is based on a four part questionnaire completed by the companies and including questions about the company strategy, integration of its ideas, management, evaluation of results, reporting and communication.

The index will be calculated annually and will equip entrepreneurs with a model that will permit them to increase awareness about the topic, to sort out their ideas, to evaluate the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company at the time of the survey, and track its progress in the subsequent years. It will also enable companies to receive feedback and compare their results with those of other companies, thus identifying the future needs for development. In the future, the companies’ results will be ranked in order of importance to compare them with Äripäev’s TOP 100 companies, and establish whether there is any correlation between the social responsibility of a company and its economic success.
