Lessons

EBS High School is licensed by the Ministry of Education and the curriculum is based on the state curriculum. However, we put more emphasis on mathematics and English; economics, informatics and foreign languages are taught as optional or elective courses.

The profile of the school is based on the following:

Studies in economics – while developing the programme in economics and setting up EBS High School we have considered the fact that only enterprising young people will become successful entrepreneurs. Therefore, the goal of studies in economics is to create enterprising people. This goal can be realised by integrating theory and practice – the theoretical part is complemented by exercises that model the economy. These help to understand the processes that take place in the economy and show what competition is like in a free market system.

Thus, the most relevant methodological parts of teaching business comprise compiling, analysing and implementing business projects and – plans. However, the aim of studies in economics in high school is to provide pupils with general knowledge in economics and areas related to economics. In this way the pupil may choose upon graduation what area seems to be of most interest.

Mathematics – the state curriculum states that in high school there are 9 courses (315 hours) of mathematics. Since taking the state exam in mathematics is becoming more and more relevant, EBS High School puts a greater emphasis on it – 12 courses (420 hour) during three years. In the 10th grade pupils study mathematics 5 hours per week, in the 11th grade 5 or 3 (one class) and in the 12th grade 4 hours per week.

Language studies -  the main function of language studies is to provide pupils with language skills that enable both personal and business communication. In EBS High School English is taught as the first foreign language (5 hours per week throughout all 3 years). Regarding the second foreign language, pupils may choose between Russian, German or French.

Informatics – on our way to information society we must consider that in addition to basic knowledge, a successful person knows how to find, analyse and interpret information. Whether or not we are prepared to do well in the changing environment depends greatly on our education. A part of education is being able to identify the relevant within the massive flow of information and skills to handle the ever-developing technologies in order to achieve our goals. Nevertheless, creating new information based on human values and refusing to let the realities get the better of us is equally relevant. This, however, means that education must shift its focus and accept that computers are an inseparable part of teaching tools.

The program of informatics in EBS High School is divided into two: during the first year pupils acquire the necessary skills to communicate with the world of computers and information. The function here ist o support and integrate the acquisition of knowledge in other subjects.

Social sciences and communication studies – in addition to social studies, the following subjects belong here: debating, public speeking and negotiations, behaviour, etiquette, ethics as well as organisational and communication psychology. We know that information society does not only require communication with the help of computers –debate, discussion, meetings, netotiations, conversation, protocol and its technology are becoming relevant more now than ever.

The aim of social and communication subjects is to provide pupils with skills and self-confidence to highlight one´s advantages and knowledge within our competitive society.
